Richard E. Holbrook, Chairman and CEO of Eastern Bank, was honored at Children’s Friend and Family Services’ second annual Champion for Children celebration on Wednesday, May 21st at Kernwood Country Club.![]()
In April, Children’s Friend and Family Services launched the first of its Parent Breakfast Series for 2008 on the topic of The Impact of Media on Children. Nationally known speaker, Michael Mann, from MediaWise, discussed the impact on children of an unhealthy media “diet” that promotes violence and disrespect. This event, sponsored by nationalgrid, was by all accounts an enormous success! Attendees stated that they found the topic informative, timely and powerful.
“I am thrilled to serve on the committee for the Children’s Friend Parent Breakfast Series, as I strongly believe that empowering parents is essential to creating the fabric of a strong community. I encourage everyone to join in the learning to help their children, families and themselves,” states Kimberley Driscoll, Mayor of Salem.
In addition to Mayor Driscoll, the volunteer committee includes Children’s Friend Board Member Monique da Silva of Newburyport, Janet Grey of Wenham, Karen Rosenberg of Marblehead and Diane McGaunn of Topsfield.
Look for the second component in this series coming this fall, which will be comprised of a speaker and workshop based on Raising Media Savvy Kids and Internet Safety. The event will be presented by a special agent from the Cyber Crime Squad New England Division of the FBI. It was a beautiful (early!) morning for the golf enthusiasts and supporters of Children’s Friend & Family Services on September 24th at Ipswich Country Club for our 4th Annual Golf Classic. With the assistance of more than 29 sponsors and 80 players, this year’s event raised over $30,000 in charitable support, which will directly benefit our new building campaign.
We remain ever grateful to our generous sponsors, without whom this event would not be possible!
