Carla Saccone, President and CEOCarla Saccone | President & CEO

Carla M. Saccone, LICSW, is the President and CEO of Children’s Friend and Family Services. Ms. Saccone brings over three decades of experience to Children’s Friend, including her most recent role as Vice President for Programs at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, where she provided leadership and direction for the agency’s extensive system of programming for families and children. Her past experience also includes multiple directorships at the Department of Mental Health, including Area Director for the Northeast region and Director of the Greater Lynn office for seven years. Ms. Saccone is also a member of the Association for Behavioral Healthcare Board, the Children’s League of Massachusetts Board, and the Advisory Board of the Department of Children and Families Greater Lynn office.

Stephanie Sladen, LICSW, is the Assistant Executive Director of Children’s Friend and Family Services.  Ms. Sladen has advanced training and experience in clinical practice with children and adolescents as well as non-profit management and leadership and has worked with children and families for over fifteen years on the North Shore.  In her previous role as Vice President of Children’s Behavioral Health Services at Lahey Health Behavioral Services, she developed and oversaw the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative programs and worked closely with the Department of Mental Health and Department of Children and Families, as well as the North Shore United Way.  Ms. Sladen actively participates in several statewide committees through the Association for Behavioral Healthcare and currently serves as the Chair of the Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative Committee.  In October of 2013, she was honored with the first Annual Elizabeth Funk Emerging Leader Award from ABH.

Diane Young | Director of Clinical Services

Diane Young, LMHC, Director of Clinical Services, began her career at Children’s Friend 10 years ago as a clinician, then Site Director, Clinical Director and now Director of Clinical Services. She holds dual Masters Degrees in Counseling and Psychological Services as well as Early Childhood Education. She has extensive experience working in school settings with children and youth who have comorbid developmental disorders and learning disabilities, specializing in Autism Broad Spectrum Disorder. Diane has researched, written grants and budgets for and implemented three Evidence based Treatments (EBTs) over the past 5 years. She has extensive understanding about all facets of EBTs, especially fidelity to the model, implementation and sustainability. Diane is on the Advisory Board of the Department of Children and Families for the Cape Ann office.

Kerry Smith, SPHR is the Human Resources Director of Children’s Friend and Family Services. Kerry’s background includes 20 years of progressive Human Resources Generalist experience in various size manufacturing companies and non profit organizations. Kerry spent 11 years as Director of Human Resources at the Trustees of Reservations, a statewide environmental nonprofit organization. Kerry spent her time building the HR department from scratch focusing on policy development, recruitment, law compliance, employee engagement and talent development. Kerry holds an MBA from Suffolk University, a BS from Alfred University and a SPHR Certification (Senior Professional of Human Resources).

Steve Surpitski, ControllerStephen Surpitski, MBA | Controller

Stephen Surpitski is the Controller of Children’s Friend and Family Services. Steve has over 13 years of experience in not-for-profit behavioral health finance. As Controller, Steve is responsible for directing all financial activities of the agency including budgeting, planning, analysis, contracting and monitoring of financial performance. In his previous position as Director of Budgets and Contracts at Lahey Health Behavioral Services, Steve worked in budgeting, monitoring of Massachusetts state contracts, financial analysis and reporting of fiscal performance. Steve has a Master of Business Administration degree from Salem State College and a Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology degree from the University of New England.
