Board Members

James S. Cunha | Chair

Jim Cunha, a graduate of Rhode Island College and Northeastern University, earning degrees in accounting, philosophy and computer science, has been with the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston since 1984.

Jim is a Senior Vice President and is responsible for the financial and payment services offered to New England financial institutions and the U.S. Treasury. Jim has also been responsible for Information Technology and Technology Strategy.

Jim and his wife Meg live in Newburyport. He has been a member of the Children’s Friend Board of Directors since January of 2009.

Kelly J. Martin | Vice Chair

Kelly J. Martin is the Chief Operations Officer for Bridgewell, a private, non-profit comprehensive human services organization providing support to individuals with developmental and psychiatric disabilities.  Ms. Martin is responsible for the administration of all residential, employment and education, day habilitation, and homeless programs and services. Ms. Martin also provides leadership to the healthcare, quality assurance and vehicle fleet management departments.

Kelly earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work from Suffolk University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Salem State University. She is a surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) traveling internationally to human service organizations to provide accreditation and consultation services. Kelly has three daughters and lives in Lynn.  She is an appointed member of the Lynn Disability Commission and is active in many local volunteer groups and activities.

Joseph C. Correnti

Joseph C. Correnti is a Partner in one of the North Shore’s most established law firms, Serafini, Darling & Correnti, LLP, located across from the court complex on Federal Street in Salem.

Born and raised in Salem, Correnti is a graduate of St. John’s Prep, Boston College and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. A former Assistant District Attorney in Essex County, his current practice includes real estate and land use law, health care, municipal and business law. The firm specializes in finding effective solutions for difficult business and land use issues.

Active in the community, Correnti currently serves as Chairman of the Salem State College Assistance Corporation, and is an Overseer for the North Shore Medical Center and Beverly Cooperative Bank. He has served as Chairman of the Community Leadership Forum of The North Shore Medical Center, and as President of the Salem Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves as a Director of the North Shore Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He has been involved as a Little League coach, as well as serving on the Board of his childrens’ grammar school.

He lives in Salem with his wife, Teresa, and their two children, Anthony and Amanda. Correnti joined the Board of Children’s Friend in December 2007.

Jeffrey C. Doherty

Jeffrey C. Doherty is a corporate attorney with the law firm of MacLean Holloway Doherty Ardiff and Morse, P.C., located in Peabody, Massachusetts. Mr. Doherty concentrates in general corporate and securities law including private placements of securities, mergers and acquisitions, technology licensing, as well as secured and unsecured debt financing. Mr. Doherty represents publicly and privately held corporations and business entities in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, e-commerce, software licensing, and commercial lending.

Mr. Doherty received his undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1985, his MBA from Babson College in 1990, and his law degree from Suffolk University Law School in 1996. Mr. Doherty is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is a member of the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association and the Essex County Bar Association.

Christine L. Danjou

Chris Danjou is the Senior Vice President, Retail Banking Division of Eastern Bank where she has been employed for the last twenty-five years. She is a graduate of the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management, and also graduated magna cum laude from Endicott College with a bachelor’s degree in Business. She is an Executive Committee Member and a member of Board of Directors of The Salem Partnership.

Richard Ferguson

Richard Ferguson is an experienced director and client service leader at McGladrey, specializing in serving not-for- profit organizations, including human service providers, educational institutions, healthcare and other not- for-profit organizations. As a firm-designated Accounting and Auditing Specialist, Rich is responsible for performing quality control reviews on audits performed by other members of the Firm, and assists in the location’s internal accounting and audit professional education. In addition to his public accounting experience with McGladrey, he also has operational experience, having been Chief Financial Officer of another organization.

Linda Wilson Gamage

Linda Wilson Gamage, a graduate of Lesley University in Early Education, has been working with young children for over 30 years. She taught pre-school students for a number of years and was instrumental in beginning the pre kindergarten program and curriculum at Brookwood School in Manchester, where she currently is a member of the Admissions Office testing, assessing and working with all grade school children.

Linda also helped initiate the Cape Ann National Association for the Mentally Ill and has been active in advocating for young adults with mental illness, having a family member who was diagnosed at a young age.

Jonathan Miller

Jonathan Miller has been a psychotherapist since 1970 and has held administrative positions in social service agencies for the past 32 years. Since 1981 Jonathan has been Executive Director of Team Coordinating Agency in Haverhill, MA. TCA is a non-profit behavioral health organization that provides addiction treatment, child welfare and mental health services in outpatient, residential, and forensic settings.

In addition to serving on the Board of Children’s Friend since 1996, Jonathan has served on the boards of 15 other organizations during his career. He currently serves as President of Girls Incorporated of Greater Haverhill, as Treasurer of Haverhill Community Television Corporation and sits on the Department of Children and Families Haverhill Area Board. He was also a founding board member and Past President of Emmaus, Inc., a Haverhill-based organization that provides a range of supportive housing services to homeless individuals and families.

Since 1982 Jonathan has trained graduate students in Marriage and Family Therapy as a field supervisor for Antioch New England University and clinically supervises graduates for licensure in Massachusetts. He is also a Mentor for graduate students in the Boston University Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership.

Jonathan holds a BA in Biology, a Master of Theology and a PhD in Theological and Religious Studies, all from Boston University. His clinical training is in pastoral counseling, and he is licensed in Massachusetts as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Social Worker.

He is also a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Jonathan has been married to Laurie Cutter since 1974, and they live in southeastern New Hampshire.

Michele R. Nivens

As Vice President of Human Resources at Copyright Clearance Center, Michele brings over 20 years of experience in organizational and talent management, compensation, benefits and talent acquisition.

A graduate of University of Massachusetts where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management, Michele also received an Ed. M from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

She has served as Vice President of Human Resources at BBN Systems and Technologies and held a similar position at Openwave Systems/ Prior to her current position, Michele was the Director of Human Resources at MSPCC where she helped to develop key metrics to enhance performance and delivery of services.

Michele joined the Board in December 2009 and lives in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Paul D. Price

A Certified Public Accountant since 1986, Paul received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Providence College and his Masters of Science Degree in Taxation from Bentley College.

Among his affiliations, Paul who is a resident of Lynn, has served on the City of Lynn Planning Board and has recently been named Trustee of St. Mary’s Junior-Senior High School in Lynn.

He is a partner in Neal A. Price & Company, LLP, a leading full-service accounting, tax, and consulting firm in Peabody, Massachusetts.

Francine H. Rosenberg M.Ed.

Fran Rosenberg is the Executive Director of the Northshore Education Consortium. In this position she is responsible for the oversight of several schools serving over 300 students with complex special needs, behavioral health challenges, or other risk factors. Ms. Rosenberg has devoted 30 years to teaching and running programs for children and young adults with significant special needs. Her particular expertise has been to work at the cross-section of child welfare, mental health, and special education.

Prior to becoming Executive Director of the Northshore Education Consortium in 2013, Ms. Rosenberg served as Vice President of Program Operations at Walker, a Needham-based non-profit agency that provides special education, behavioral health, and residential treatment services to children and youth with severe emotional and behavioral health challenges. Ms. Rosenberg worked as a teacher, a consultant, and an educational administrator during her 25 year career at Walker. Ms. Rosenberg has served as a board member for the Massachusetts Association of Approved Private Schools. She has a B.S. and a M.Ed. in Special Education and Applied Child Development from Tufts University.

Richard A. Ruf

As the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer at Copyright Clearance Center, Richard Ruf is responsible for all of Copyright Clearance Center’s financial affairs, as well as royalty payments, sales operations, contract administration and facilities. Prior to joining CCC in 2000, he served as Controller of REP Environmental Processes, a subsidiary of RWE AG. Richard was with Laventhol & Horwath, CPAs prior to joining the private sector. Richard earned his MBA from Suffolk University, holds his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Virginia Tech, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Michael D. Ward

Michael Ward has a wealth of experience in leading high growth organizations. With considerable experience in strategic, organizational and sales force management, Michael has been the practice leader for several successful companies. Currently as President of Insight Performance, Michael leads a dynamic team that meets the varied human resources and management needs of small and mid size organizations. Michael formerly served as the Executive Vice President of Eastern Benefits (employee benefits brokerage division of Eastern Bank) from 2004 through 2010. With Michael’s leadership, the organization grew over 900% and became widely regarded as one of the highest quality and top performing employee benefits brokerage firms in New England. Prior to this, Michael was President and Founder of Harbour Benefits Insurance Brokerage, which he sold to Eastern Bank and its subsidiary Eastern Insurance, LLC in 2004. Michael has also served as the Managing Director of the employee benefits division for a regional insurance brokerage firm and also worked several years as a Sales Executive for a leading national insurance company.

Michael is actively involved in several non-profit and business organizations. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for Children’s Friend and Family Services, North Shore Chamber of Commerce and Net Atlantic, as an Overseer for North Shore Medical Center, and as a mentor for business owners involved with The Enterprise Center at Salem State University. Michael is also currently the Associate Head Baseball Coach at Salem State University. He formerly participated on the boards of the Plummer Home for Boys and the Salem Chamber of Commerce.

Michael has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University and MBA, summa cum laude, from Babson College.
